How Much Does a Trampoline Cost? Breakdown by Sizes and Brands

Trampolines are one of the most popular “toys” that a child wants, but what they don’t often know is the price of one.

While we as parents usually have no problems buying a regular toy or book, a trampoline is an altogether different proposition.

One thing for sure: you’re not gonna pick one up for $29.99.

So how much does a trampoline cost? A trampoline will cost between $110 to over $1000, and that depends on the brand, size, shape, and other factors. The addition of accessories such as safety nets and covers will also add on to the cost.

As you can see, a trampoline can be a hefty investment, and is it worth of? How do you go about deciding if you should part with your hard-earned cash?

In this post, I will break down some of the key factors that should go into your consideration and share a few of my top recommended trampoline brands.

Average Price Range for Trampolines

Generally speaking, the larger a trampoline is, the more it will cost.

In general, they’ll start at around $100 at the low end and go up to $1000 or more.

Of course, there’s some wiggle room in this range — you can sometimes find medium-sized trampolines for as little as $150 and extra-large ones for just over $500.

It also helps if you buy used; even though you won’t get a warranty that way, it could save you quite a bit of money if the previous owner took good care of it.

But unless that person is your friend or family member who bought it brand new and kept it in great condition (and isn’t charging you an arm and a leg), buying used can be risky business.

It’s always better to buy from somewhere that has a good return policy so that if something breaks within six months of purchase (which does happen with some brands) then at least you can get your money back.

Factors that determine the price of a trampoline

Size

Smaller trampolines are going to cost less than larger ones.

This is because they take up less material and take less engineering to create.

We’ve found that our smaller models are perfect for younger children and small backyards, while our larger models can be enjoyed by everyone in the family.

Condition

Another factor that greatly influences the price is whether the trampoline is new or old.

This, of course, is dependent on your personal preferences and choices.

A used trampoline will be less expensive than a new one and the cost is reflected by the fact that a used trampoline will show traces of use.

Typically, I would advise against buying a used trampoline unless you know for sure it has been well taken care of.

Used trampolines can pose a significant safety hazard as they go through wear and tear, especially so if they are old models. If you have to buy one, be sure to physically inspect the entire equipment and jump on it. Unusual sounds such as squeaking are giveaways that they are not suitable for purchase.

New and unused trampolines, on the other hand, are more expensive but they can be much more worth the money in the long run.

Shape and style

Most of the time, we end up buying a round trampoline. They are the most common in the market and probably the most budget-friendly.

There are other shapes that you can consider too, such as oval, square, and rectangular trampolines. Each of them has its pros and cons and serves slightly different purposes.

Since these are not exactly the most common and popular shapes, they tend to cost a bit more when compared to a round trampoline of the same size.

Also, there are also inground trampolines too. These will definitely be on the higher end of the price scale as minor construction work is involved to dig up earth as well as build a wall in it.

Brand

Trampolines are fun, for sure, but they are also a somewhat high-risk activity, especially for young children. There are many cases of accidents that happened on trampolines that require a visit to the emergency room.

That is also why I also recommend anyone who is interested in getting one to buy from a reputable brand.

That way, you are more assured of the quality of the materials used as well as the attention to safety. Warranties tend to be longer too since they know their products will last.

Poorly made trampolines typically cannot withstand the pressures of constant jumping (despite what they claim in their product fact sheets) and very soon, you will start to see bending of the legs or frames, or they could start missing a spring.

All of these create a danger to the jumper, something I avoid at all costs.

While brand names do cost more, I feel peace of mind.

Quality

The quality of a trampoline is quite closely related to the brand, but of course, there are always exceptions.

That said, you should be concerned about the materials that are being used to construct a trampoline.

Different materials are used to make each component.

Tubing used as the frame and legs of a trampoline, for example, is typically constructed of galvanized steel, which is strong and rust proof.

For the springs, another supplier usually makes them for the trampoline company according to their specifications. The springs are usually made by a company that specializes in spring production.

Steel, fiberglass, or electric straps are commonly used in the construction of springs. It’s crucial to pay attention to the springs because some are designed to endure longer and not degrade as rapidly as others.

Finally, canvas or woven polypropylene materials are commonly used to make the jumping mat. The cost of these components often determines the pricing of trampolines. Trampolines made of high-quality materials typically bounce better, are safer, lasts longer, and are easier to maintain.

Safety

Over the last decade, the realm of trampoline safety has expanded dramatically. Today’s trampolines come standard with some form of enclosure. This is where trampolines start to become a little more expensive.

Trampolines in the 14 to 15-foot range (with enclosure) cost between $450 and upwards of $1,000. Depending on the size of your trampoline and the quality of its enclosure, some of the higher-end models might cost up to $1,500.

Perhaps you’ve already discovered a fantastic deal on a trampoline and just want to add a safety cage to the mix. Safety enclosures range in price from $50 to $110, with the average being around $70.

Performance

Did you know that trampolines can differ in the amount of bounce they produce? This is due to the types of materials used, especially the springs which has a big effect of the bounce.

Some models are purposely fitted with high-performance springs so that jumpers can achieve a higher bounce (probably good for trampoline tricks!). Some models are made for gymnastics, which requires higher quality materials as the performance of the trampoline is critical.

Depending on the kind of performance you are craving, the prices of trampolines can vary.

I should say that for recreational jumpers, pretty much all standard trampolines are good enough for you to have a good time.

Additional accessories

When you purchase a trampoline, it usually does not come with bells and whistles. In order to enhance your experience on it, you can actually add on accessories such as basketball hoops and ladders to make it even better.

You might also want to invest in a trampoline cover to protect the equipment when it is not in use, or a trampoline anchor kit to secure the trampoline to the ground (especially important in areas with high winds).

While they are optional, they can certainly add a new dimension to owning a trampoline.

Buying a Trampoline Cheaper

Because trampolines can be expensive, it’s a good idea to do some research before buying one. Look for bargains, and consider the following tips:

  • Buy out of season. You can often get cheaper prices on summer items when winter is approaching, and vice versa.
  • Check out secondhand stores. This tip may seem obvious, but it’s easy to forget about thrift shops in our online-oriented society.
  • Shop online. There are many more options available online than at your local sporting goods store. If you find a great deal on Amazon or another site that doesn’t ship internationally, you may want to contact them about whether they will ship to your location for an additional fee–it could still work out cheaper than buying locally!
  • Buy with friends! Getting a trampoline is more fun when you have someone else around to enjoy it with–and if you split the cost between two families instead of one family buying their own trampoline outright then this makes sense financially too because each group gets 50% off what they would normally pay!
